Hotel Check-In Survey by MEWS
Interesting post by Mews. Seems twice a week companies talk about “their kiosk” when in fact it is just software. Grubbrr e.g. They like to co-opt the trailing term kiosk in a functional way. Last week we tried to get a picture of the “Made In USA” Diebold kiosk and the Tillster kiosks. No such thing. Same thing with MEWS (which is single digit market share of PMS by the way). Nothing on their website. Oracle and Agilysys come to mind for major PMS deployers. MEWS is “little guys” we think (a lot of them).

Market Position for PMS
Oracle OPERA is the most widely used property management system (PMS) in the hotel industry, especially among large hotel chains and the Global Top 100 hotels, where it holds a dominant position with around 50% market share in this segment5. Globally, Oracle OPERA is also recognized as the biggest player in the hotel PMS market, holding over 10% of the overall global market share2.
Mews is a significant and fast-growing PMS provider, particularly popular among independent hotels and smaller chains. As of 2023, Mews serves about 38,000 hotels, representing approximately 6.3% of global market share and 16% of global hotel rooms3. While this makes Mews one of the leading cloud-based PMS providers, it does not surpass Oracle OPERA in terms of overall market penetration, especially among the largest and most prominent hotel groups.
Other PMS providers like Cloudbeds, Protel, Hotelogix, and RMS Cloud also hold notable market shares, with Cloudbeds in particular being a major competitor in the mid-sized hotel segment145.
In summary:
-
Oracle OPERA is the most widely used PMS among large hotel chains and globally by market share25.
-
Mews is a leading and rapidly growing PMS, especially among independent and boutique hotels, but is not as widely used as Oracle OPERA overall35.
-
Both are among the most prominent PMS providers, but Oracle OPERA remains the clear leader in terms of overall usage and market share.
- The major PMS providers for hotels include Oracle OPERA, Cloudbeds, Mews, Protel, Hotelogix, Infor HMS, Stayntouch, eZee Absolute, RoomKey PMS, and Agilysys. Each system offers unique strengths, with Oracle OPERA dominating enterprise chains, Cloudbeds and Mews leading among independent and boutique hotels, and other providers catering to specific markets and property sizes
